On October 18th, 2018, VSF came to the October 20th anniversary conference and praised the advanced exemplary women in many fields on October 20th - Vietnamese Women's Day in Kien An district, Hai Phong city. VSF sponsored 3 disadvantaged children living in Ngoc Son fishing hamlet, Hai Phong.
People in the fishing hamlet are all Christians. Among 26 households, there are 6 old people aged 70 and over, 30 children under 18 years old, but only 15 children have a chance to study in school. Living conditions in the fishing hamlet are not guaranteed due to lack of land and electric lines, the households cannot do household registration, living environment is severely affected by industrial waste of a company located in front of the neighborhood.
Among the households in the hamlet, there are 3 students in extremely difficult circumstances. At the conference held in Hai Phong in the past, VSF had donated 3-year sponsorships worth up to 108 million for them:
Tran Van Viet (third from left) happily receiving gift from VSF
Mr. Tran Van Viet (2007) is currently living with his grandfather, Tran Van Doan, because his father led his two sisters to return home in Hai Duong, his mother left home for a long time. Because Viet’s case is too difficult, the family intended to let him leave school because of poverty. However, with the support of the local, Viet is currently studying at Ngoc Son Primary School with many good achievements. Thus, he is considered as a good student, and always passionate about learning and improving himself.
Le Thi Ngan in her small temporary accommodation of her 4-people family
Ms. Le Thi Ngan (2010) is living with her parents with doing fishing as a main job to earn a living. Her family situation is extremely difficult with little money, patchy and momentary house, which makes her sister - Ngan in fifth grade resolutely drop out of school in order to work manually instead. At least, it would help her parents raise children with a small sum of money she might earn. As Ngan is considered a good student in school, she is afraid of having to drop out of school one day. At present, school only would able to reduce partially her tuition fees, and any other subsidies is not supported.
Tran Nhu Quynh (middle) is timid and often avoids eye contacts.
Ms. Tran Nhu Quynh (2005) is living with her very old grandmother who no longer has ability to work, and her parents have no career as well. Quynh was born with birth defects of cleft palate. That is the reason why she becomes timid, has a sense of inferiority and often avoids contacts from outside. Although she has undergone several operations, Quynh still needs to perform surgery more 1-2 times. The amount of money to cover operations is really huge. As a result, her family is in need of the community, organizations and donors’ help to improve her appearance and confidence to continue her study and pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor.
With three cases, VSF fund the sponsorship amount of 108 million VND, through the Women's Union in Ngoc Son, Hai Phong, aimed to support three children to continue their studying in school.
In the coming time, VSF will also organize 03 training sessions of soft skills include: goal setting skills, skills to prevent child abuse and drowning prevention skills for children at the fishing village of Hai Phong to help them identify dreams, targets goals and determine the roads they will go to accomplish that dream and practice the skills to protect themselves.
