Although plastic bags and single-use plastics are convenient, they leave significant consequences on the environment. Amidst the global challenge of plastic pollution, Vietnam is taking more decisive action, starting with small changes in daily consumption habits.

In 2009, the Bag Free World initiative officially designated July 3 each year as International Plastic Bag-Free Day, aiming to encourage consumers to reduce their use of plastic bags and to promote environmentally friendly alternatives around the world.

This morning, the launching ceremony of “No Plastic Bag Day in Vietnam 2025” officially took place, spreading the powerful message: “Sort Fast - Shop Green - Cut Waste.”
The event was co-organized by the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development and the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, with the support of For Vietnamese Stature Foundation, Unilever Vietnam, Pacific Environment Vietnam (PE-VN), and major retail systems including AEON Vietnam, LOTTE Mart, Coopmart, Central Retail, MM Mega Market, and TH true mart.

At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Thang - Deputy Director of the Institute of Policy and Strategy and Policy for Agriculture and Rural Development - emphasized: “To reduce waste, we must begin with sorting. To change behavior, we need to start where consumers are most engaged - that is, supermarkets and retail stores. The message ‘Sort Fast - Shop Green - Cut Waste’ is not just a slogan, but a daily call to action.”

On July 3, retailers will encourage customers not to use plastic bags in their store systems and will carry out communications activities to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste.
