“Since the school organized boarding meals, the students have been able to eat nutritious meals. Even when they were sick, they still didn't want to take a day off but kept asking for school. Because every day when they went to class, my children can have a nutritious meal with meat, vegetables ... instead of plain rice only with water and green vegetables ”. That was the emotional sharing of Huong's parents, student at Na O schoolsite.
When the weather changes and it has drizzling rain, the mountainous students are sensitive to colds, eye pain and respiratory diseases. Primary school teacher Duong Thi Anh at Na O school site, shared that although many students in the class have to take time off due to coughing or eye pain, they all look forward to coming to school as soon as possible. That was because the students didn't want to miss out on the delicious boarding meals. Seeing the children gurgling over the nutritious meals, the teacher could not hide her joy.
And at Khau De school site, Giang Thi Thuong's path to school is not easy. Her family is a poor household with many members. After her father passed away, she crashed with her uncle's family on the top of the mountain, which is 6km far from the school. Every morning she has to go to school at 5 o'clock, walk through 2 streams. On these early winter days, when the sun rises later, her mother will light up the flashlight to take her to school. Despite such hardship, she is still eager to go to school, to meet her friends, to eat nutritious dishes. Due to special circumstances, like many other mountainous children, Thuong does not have enough food and drink, so she suffers from malnutrition.
These are the stories of two children out of 195 at Thach Lam and Thai Son kindergartens (Cao Bang Province) who are being sponsored boarding meals due to the project "Growing up with mountainous preschool students" initiated by For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF). The excitement when coming to class is a great motivation for VSF to continue the journey of spreading love and contributing to positive changes in their lives. On behalf of the students, VSF would like to send sincere thanks to the donors who sponsored the project and give love to the students in poor villages.
