“There’s a domino effect among the 17 SDGs. When one goal is effectively addressed, it can positively impact others,” Ms. Diep shared. “For example, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation (SDG 6) reduces the time girls in certain regions spend collecting water, allowing them to attend school more regularly (SDG 4), which in turn promotes gender equality (SDG 5) and enhances future workforce quality (SDG 8).”
However, she also cautioned against potential conflicts between goals in the absence of a balanced and comprehensive development strategy. “If a country focuses solely on economic growth (SDG 8) while neglecting gender equality (SDG 5), women may be excluded from the labor market or face wage discrimination.”
The talk attracted over 200 students and was part of the “He, She, and the Future” event organized by the Faculty of International Studies and the Nhan Van – Gender Equality Club of USSH. The event also featured Dr. Nguyen Le Hoai Anh, lecturer at Hanoi National University of Education, as a guest speaker.
VSF extends sincere thanks to the organizers for hosting such a meaningful conversation on gender and sustainable development.
