200 million dong…more patients will be treated
At the ceremony, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Huong – Vice Director of the Supportive Fund for Cancer Patients - Bright Future (Bright Future Fund) – gave a heartfelt thanks for the charitable activity of VSF in supporting cancer patients. She also said that there are up to 126,000 cancer patients every year in Vietnam, of which about 94,000 patients die from cancer. Not only do they suffer from physical pain, but they also incur a substantial financial burden for their treatment. In fact, many patients stop their treatment because of their lack of finance, and succumb to the coming death. Of those patients, there are many poor children.
According to Dr. Le Thanh Duc - Head of Internal Medicine 5 Department, K Hospital, Tan Trieu - cancer is a chronic disease that needs long courses of treatment and many patients do not have the means to continue the process. Confronting this issue, charitable activities for fundraising, health care and fee-supporting for cancer patients - especially those in difficult situations - are very necessary and meaningful to them.

"This is one of many charitable activities of the year and also a thank-you on the occasion of Vietnamese Physician’s Day. Through Bright Future Fund, we hope that this funding will partly contribute to alleviate the financial burden of cancer patients who have difficulties using expensive cancer drugs and will support the patients both materially and spiritually in overcoming the difficult period. In the future, we will continue to work with Supportive Fund for Cancer Patients - Bright Future to support more patients."

Reassure a new lease on life!
For cancer patients, time spent in hospital is a lot longer than at home, so the sympathy and sharing of the community means so much to them. Pham Thi Luyen, 54 years old, from Hung Yen Province, shares: “I contracted breast cancer that has led to metastasis in my lung. It’s been the 8th year since I went to K hospital, but I still don’t know when I will fully recover from the disease. Treatment course to treatment course; we are all looking for a thin beam of light at the end of the tunnel. Receiving this encouragement, we are really obliged and touched.”
However, with the same difficult situation and 8 years fighting off breast cancer, Duong Thi Y, from Thanh Hoa province, cannot undergo surgery due to diabetes and hypertension. Helplessly, she has to live with the illness day by day. The encouragement of her family, the attentiveness of doctors as well as benefactors have energized her a lot.

The Bright Future Fund has an evaluation board that will evaluate and approve patients’ records, and cancer patients will receive financial aids from 3 to 50 million VND, depending on their circumstances. In addition, patients are supported with counseling expenses and participation in cancer patients' clubs. The fund also cooperates with some pharmaceutical companies to provide drugs at reasonable prices for the patients. Every Sunday, there is a referral program for patients to apply for funding. On occasions, such as public holidays like the Lunar New Year holiday, the Fund also offers gifts to patients. Since its establishment, the Fund has provided support to nearly 20,000 patients.
Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Trang - Director of VSF shares: “We believe that with the noble purpose of physical and spiritual encouragement to cancer patients, these practical actions will continue to bring more joy to them".

It is known that the Supportive Fund for Cancer Patients - Bright Future was established in 2011 and its primary goal was to support cancer patients, especially disadvantaged patients nationwide. The most frequent activity is cash assistance of VND 200-300 million VND per month for disadvantaged cancer patients currently being treated at cancer hospitals in Vietnam.
"We are committed that the full amount of the grant donated by VSF will be delivered directly to patients for the right purpose. This gift is more meaningful when it is given on the occasion of the Vietnamese Physician's Day"- said Associate Professor Tran Thanh Huong - Vice Director of Supportive Fund for Cancer Patients - Bright Future.
