These were the insights shared by Dr. Nguyen Van Huy - Lecturer at the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Hanoi Medical University. He was one of the instructors guiding teachers and parents at Nghia Loi Primary School on drowning prevention, injury control, and first aid.
This activity is part of the Community Medicine Training Course, organized by the For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) in collaboration with Hanoi Medical University under the "Happy School" project.
Experience shows that accidents requiring first aid can easily occur within the school environment, where teachers and parents are the first responders. Understanding the pivotal role of those initial "golden minutes," the training course was implemented to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills, helping to minimize the consequences of accidents and prevent serious risks to children.
Under the direct guidance of doctors and lecturers from the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine (Hanoi Medical University), participants were instructed in essential school-based first aid skills. These included handling drowning, high-fever convulsions, choking, and respiratory arrest, as well as practicing chest compressions, artificial respiration, hemostasis, and basic wound bandaging.
“Training sessions like today are truly beneficial for parents in remote areas like ours. I hope that in the near future, more parents and teachers will have the opportunity to participate in such practical programs,” shared Mr. Le Thuc Canh, a parent at Nghia Loi Primary School, after the session.
VSF would like to express our sincere thanks to the "Vi Tam Voc Viet" (For Vietnamese Stature) Program for accompanying us and covering the project's activities.
Let’s join VSF in looking back at the memorable moments from the child injury prevention and first aid training session in the video below:
