Do children who are sponsored at school sites under the project receive lunch money from the Government? Who will be in charge of cooking for the children? How is the project monitored, evaluated and reported? How will the support amount of 1.7 million/child/school year be used?
These are some of the questions sent to the VSF's fanpage when launching "Growing up with preschool students' ' project - the 2nd year. To answer frequently asked questions about the project, let's find out through the information below!
1. Do children who are sponsored in the project "Growing up with mountainous preschool students" receive lunch money from the Government?
The project area "Growing up with mountainous preschool students" belongs to Thach Lam and Thai Son communes (Bao Lam district, Cao Bang province), where the conditions are extremely difficult under Program 135 for the period 2017-2020. At the same time, Bao Lam is also a poor district according to the Government's Resolution No. 30A/2008/NQ-CP.
Therefore, the children in the project are supported with lunch money of VND149,000/month (according to Decree 06/2018/ND-CP).
Through the school, Bao Lam District Education and Training Department will pay for the children's lunch allowance for their parents/carers. But the families are all in difficult situations, of which 70% are poor and near poor households, so parents/carers often use this money to cover general living expenses for the whole family, instead of using exclusively for children's lunches.
Because the lunch support money has been transferred to the children's families, the school no longer has the funds to organize lunches for students.
2.At school sites under the project “Growing up with mountainous preschool students", who is in charge of cooking lunch and paying for the lunches’ cost for the children?
There are options for cooking at school sites:
Hiring someone to cook (usually locals or students' parents). For schools with 50 children or more, the cost will be VND2.6 million/month and the Department of Education and Training will be responsible for paying. For schools with fewer than 50 students, the cost is VND1.5 million/month, which is jointly contributed and paid by parents.
The school is the unit responsible for monitoring and ensuring food hygiene and safety for children's lunches as well.
3. How is the project monitored, evaluated and reported?
For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) is the unit to monitor and evaluate the results of the project.
Every month, the school will quickly update the project implementation status and send photos and videos of lunches to VSF
Quarterly, the school will report to VSF on the results of the project implementation, including changes in children's weight, height and health. Then, VSF will send the project's summary report to the donors. Donors also receive their own report on the child they sponsored.
In addition, the project is also supervised by the local government.
4. How will the sponsorship amount of VND1.7 million/child/school year be used?
The amount of money will be used to pay for children’s lunches at the rate of VND9,500/day/child for a school year (9 months). Children get lunch and afternoon snacks as well
5. How much and how can I contribute to the project ?
Donors can:
Sponsor any amount of money; or sponsor lunches within 1 school year for 1 or more children (VND1,700,000 / 1 child)

Improve student learning facilities by buying more school supplies, bookcases, or improve facilities such as installing more lights, fans, blankets, etc.
Used to sponsor day-boarding meals in the next school year.
7. How long will the project be implemented?
Growing up with mountainous preschool student is a long-term project of For Vietnamese Stature Foundation, which is launched with the hope that children will be supported throughout the preschool period (from 3 years old to 5 years old) to improve malnutrition and wasting. We will make an effort to mobilize resources so that we can sponsor lunches for the children while they are attending preschools in the project areas.
8. What is the role of the school, local authorities and parents in organizing meals for the children?
