No longer have to study in the rickety school and sleep on the cold ground, now the children in Tham Pung (Hua Mun village, Pu Xi commune, Tuan Giao district, Dien Bien province) have been learning and playing in a new spacious school recently inaugurated in May 2017.
Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Trang - Director of For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) - who directly conducted school survey and mobilized to build the new one shared with us proudly: "We have completed the school!"
Two months ago, the teachers and students in Tham Pung school had to study and live in a temporary, rickety school with fibro-cement roof and dilapidated wooden plank walls. In that school, the children had to sleep on the ground covered by tarps and wooden boards which hardly protect the children against cold.

However, within two months, thanks to the combination of VSF and Mountainous Underprivileged Students Fund, a spacious, beautiful and cozy campus has sprung up to replace the old one.
The new school is spacious with a wide range of facilities such as public house, classes and toilets, making going to school excited every day for the children. VSF sponsored more than 400 million VND to build it.
On school opening day, despite the rain and slippery roads, local people, teachers, parents and children were very happy because the children have studied in a much more favorable condition.

The new school has necessary amenities: functional classrooms, public house, kitchen, toilets, etc. The kitchen was built as a supplement to improve living conditions of teachers who have boarding here.
Mr. Mai Trong Thuyet - Deputy Director of Education and Training Department of Tuan Giao district said: "Pu Xi is the poorest upland commune of the district. In the past, advocating children to school was a great challenge for us because the population was scattered and the way to school was very difficult. Now, a spacious school in the center village that shortens the distance of 8 kms of forest road is an attraction for the children. We are extremely grateful to VSF. "
Teacher Ca Van Thanh - school construction supervisor emotionally said: "Up to now I still do not believe that in just 2 months the school has been completed with the best materials which seem like only available in the lowland brought up here under adverse weather conditions."
During the field survey, the representatives of VSF discovered that the land they tend to build the school had a road runs across, cattle and poultry roam about because there was no barrier. The work of persuading people to make a roundabout route was made on the day. Not only went to each household, but the representative of VSF also rode motorcycle to meet the households who insisted not to make a roandabout route to convince them. In the end, more than a dozen people representing the village also agreed to sign an agreement of route around the school, everyone then breathed a sign of reliefed.
Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Trang, Director of VSF said, "Hopefully, with better facilities, they will like to go to school more, enjoy studying, contribute successfully to the popular education in remote areas of the country ".
This is the first time that VSF and Mountainous Underprivileged Students Fund have been successfully cooperated in helping poor children have the best learning conditions. In the future, VSF will also build more school and carry out other meaningful social activities to help children in disadvantaged areas throughout the country.
