“We believe that these self-contained dormitory rooms will help the children enjoy better health and a more comfortable state of mind for learning, nurturing their dreams and growing their aspirations. This is not only an improvement in living conditions, but also a sincere act of care, sent by thousands of kind-hearted donors from across the country together with For Vietnamese Stature Foundation to the children in the border areas.”

This was shared by Ms. Tran Hong Diep - Director of For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) - at the inauguration ceremony of the 2-storey dormitory building at My Ly 1 Semi-Boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minorities (My Ly commune, Nghe An province).

Previously, students at My Ly 1 school had to bathe outdoors, use shared toilets, and live in open-wall rooms that were scorching in summer and freezing in winter. From this reality, in November 2024, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, VSF launched a fundraising campaign to build dormitories for highland students. In just two months, the project received strong support from 2,260 individual and organizational donors for Phase 1, with a total amount of more than 2.1 billion VND raised.

Nine months after the groundbreaking, a spacious 2-storey dormitory building has risen from an empty piece of land and was put into use just in time for the new school year. The construction schedule was accelerated while still ensuring quality, with close supervision from all related parties so that every detail meets the living and learning needs of the students. The newly inaugurated building now provides hundreds of children in the border areas with a safe and convenient place to stay, giving teachers peace of mind to teach and students peace of mind to study and nurture their dreams.

This impressive result is not only evidence of the spirit of sharing and unity of thousands of hearts turning toward children in highland areas, but also demonstrates the strong influence of the project initiated by VSF. Beyond this project, throughout its 10 years of operation, millions of donors have chosen to accompany VSF on its journey to inspire a sense of social responsibility for a better future for highland students.

Currently, VSF is raising funds for Phase 2 to build a semi-boarding kitchen for students at My Ly 1 school, ensuring that they are fully cared for in both accommodation and daily meals. A standard-compliant kitchen will not only provide delicious and nutritious meals but will also play an important role in protecting students’ health and laying the foundation for their physical development.
