The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was established in 1961 by Former President John F. Kennedy.
USAID works in over 100 countries with key goals: improving health, supporting global stability, providing humanitarian assistance, fostering innovation, working with partners, and empowering women and girls.
Vietnam and USAID have started cooperation since 1989, so far both sides have gained success and achieved important milestones.
In Vietnam, USAID is currently implementing comprehensive supporting programs in areas including economic growth and governance, higher education, health (including HIV, tuberculosis, and other pandemic and disease threats), environment and climate change, biodiversity/wildlife prevention, supporting for people with disabilities and other vulnerable people, and disaster aids. USAID plays an important role in helping Vietnam reach global markets through the accession to World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Vietnam-US Bilateral Trade Agreement.
USAID sponsors the contest “Plastic Talk” through the project "Reducing plastic pollution with local solutions" implemented by Centre for Supporting Green Development (GreenHub).
