On May 5th, the representative of For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) had a meeting with Women’s Union (WU) of Hai Phong City and the WU of Kenh Duong Ward to discuss the “Scarlet Sails” project. At the meeting, 2 parties shared their concerns about the child protection topic in general and the child sexual abuse prevention in particular, and at the same time learned about the current situation and the need for support to prevent sexual abuse children in Kenh Duong ward.

Ms. Nguyen Hai Thanh - The chairwoman of Kenh Duong ward WU said: “The ward currently has about 15,000 inhabitants, including more than 3,000 migrant workers and thousands of students from other provinces. Many people do not have stable jobs, do not register for temporary residence, and take their children together without a permanent home . In addition,  the super fast speed of urbanization makes people fall into many social evils. This situation has caused children to face many difficulties. Many children lack the attention and care of their parents. Children often live with their father or mother, or grandparents or they live in a family including addicts or people with HIV/AIDs. The appearance of many entertaining places such as game stalls and motels, makes it easy for children to be lured and drawn into unhealthy activities."

Realizing that raising awareness and skills on prevention of sexual abuse for children and caregivers is extremely urgent, VSF and  the WU of Hai Phong city and the WU of Kenh Duong ward have preliminarily agreed on a cooperation method and  projecst and activities’ content of the project "Scarlet Sails" - implemented from May 2021. Accordingly, the project will:

  • Organize a training course on sexual abuse prevention skills for children aged 10-15 years old;

  • Organize seminars with children to share experiences of applying knowledge and skills after training;

  • Organize seminars with caregivers on prevention of child sexual abuse;

  • Make  a communication short film for children about sexual abuse prevention skills. Expectedly, this short film will be used by schools in Hai Phong city for the purpose of communicating the prevention of child sexual abuse

In addition, from September 2021, the project will support monthly tuition fees for 3 children with extremely difficult circumstances in Kenh Duong for 36 consecutive months (support budget is 1.000.000 VND/child/month).

We would like to thank Bac A Bank for the commitment to sponsor and accompany the project "Scarlet Sails". Moreover, the project has also received a 48.000.000 VND contribution from the program "Fulfilled lucky money - Sharing love" in 2021. In the future, VSF will continue to call for fundraising from the community through Global Giving and MoMo E-wallet.

VSF would like to thank the companion and support of the WU of Hai Phong city and Kenh Duong ward for the project "Scarlet Sails". With practical activities and the cooperation of 3 parties, the project promises to bring many positive results. Children in Kenh Duong ward in particular and Hai Phong city in general will be able to access and be equipped with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves. Caregivers will learn the importance of child sexual abuse prevention and know how to protect their children.

Please follow the VSF’s media channels to update the latest information about the project.
