Training course on ”Household livelihood improving model for ethnic minority women” in Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province

On August 2, For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) in collaboration with the Lao Cai Women's Union (WU), the Bac Ha WU and local authorities hosted a training course on the model to improve household livelihood for ethnic minority women living in difficult circumstances.

This is one of the activities under the “No voice - No equal future” project implemented since May 2023 with funding from TH Group and the “Spreading true happiness” program of VSF.

The participants of the training course were 30 women from the H'Mong and Phu La ethnic groups, of which 15 women received loan support packages in the first phase to increase production, improve livelihoods, and promote gender equality.

This is a combination between in-class training and on-site training. In the morning, the participants were provided with knowledge on pig breed selection; pigsty preparation; common diseases identification, prevention, and treatment in livestock. In the afternoon, the participants visited two models of raising pigs and chickens in the commune, and they were directly instructed on how to arrange the pigsty and henhouse; clean, disinfect, and inject periodically vaccinate livestock and poultry, etc.

The trainer of the course is Ms. Le Thanh Hau, an Agricultural Engineer and officer of the Agricultural Service Center of Bac Ha district. Besides, there was the representative of VSF - Mrs. Tran Hong Diep, Deputy Director; the representative of the Lao Cai WU - Mrs. Mai Thi Hong Xuan; and a representative of the Bac Ha WU - Mrs. Dao Thi Thanh.

“Previously, my husband was always the person joining the training course. I got in trouble when the pig was sick and my husband was not at home. With the knowledge equipped today, both of us can work together which helps us be less tired. I feel more confident and happy.” - shared Mrs. Ma Thi Chia, one of the 15 women who received a loan for the first phase of the project.
