"Whenever I bring the meal to class, I see the children clapping their hands and saying in the ethnic language "eat rice", "eat meat" and “yummy yummy”, I am very touched. That's the share of uncle Giang Giong Sinh - who is in charge of cooking for students at school site of Khau Noong School (Thach Lam Kindergarten, Bao Lam district, Cao Bang province).
Starting work in 2019 when the project "Growing up with mountainous preschool students" arrived at the school site, his daily job is to cook for 24 preschool children studying here. Seeing children have to go a long way to school every day, uncle Sinh has had more motivation to prepare hot and delicious meals every day.
According to uncle Sinh, the preparation takes the most time, especially the meat mincing stage to make it easier for children to eat. Every day, he still goes to school from 7:30 a.m, but sometimes he has to go back home to get dried corn plants to school. There is no firewood available on the hill, he has to use it to cook the meal. The delicious meals at lunch and afternoon uncle Sinh are the joys of the children every time they come to school. “Student Giang A Binh has felt that he could eat well at school, he has also brought his younger brother to class to eat even though he was not been old enough to go to school. Binh scoops up the rice and fills his brother up, then eats later” - the most impressive story of an uncle Sinh.
As a resident living near the school, in the past, uncle Sinh has witnessed many students having to bring “men men” (a kind of food made from steamed mashed corn) to eat, or sometimes having to go home because they didn't have lunch. "After all this time of working, I see that children have changed a lot, they are getting fatter and taller and going to school regularly."- Uncle Sinh happily shared after nearly 2 years of working as a cook at the school.
Uncle Sinh and many other Uncles & Aunts cooking at 5 school sites of the "Growing up with mountainous preschool students" project are together contributing to bringing more than 67,000 meals to highland children from hundreds of benefactors across the country. A new year is coming, VSF wishes the aunts, uncles, and teachers a lot of health and happiness.
