“I feel I understand more about the role of a volunteer. I learned how to facilitate, listen, and give presentations. I’m very happy!”
“I feel happy because I made new friends, had new experiences, and learned more about myself.”
“I learned useful knowledge and skills to organize activities, and I understand more about patience, listening, and respecting others.”
These are the lovely thoughts shared by 8 young volunteers after their first training session, held on May 31 by the ScarletSails project, supported by For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF).
This training was designed especially for 8 young volunteers who are children of BAC A BANK staff in Hanoi. It aimed to give them the basic knowledge and skills they need to join the project as activity organizers and supporters in the upcoming children’s training sessions.

Guided by two “captains”:
- Ms. Tran Hong Diep – Expert in Gender and Community Development
- Ms. Nguyen Thi Chinh – Expert in Psychology, Gender, and Reproductive Health
…the volunteers learned basic knowledge about comprehensive sexuality education, and child protection. Topics included puberty changes, gender identity, sexual orientation, personal boundaries, and how to recognize and prevent abuse and violence.

This knowledge will help the volunteers feel more confident when supporting the experts during training sessions for children. These “crew members” will help organize the activities and become trusted companions for the children as they learn to protect themselves.
Besides learning knowledge, the volunteers also practiced real-life situations, trained in organizing activities, public speaking, teamwork, and especially active listening. Thanks to this, each of them had the chance to discover their own strengths and weaknesses and feel more confident to take on suitable roles in the future.

With their positive energy and strong motivation to learn, these 8 volunteers are sure to be great “first mates” alongside the two captains in steering the Scarlet Sails toward its mission of spreading knowledge and love.

What about you?
The journey of the ScarletSails project is still open for 30 special “passengers” – children aged 12–15, who are children of BAC A BANK staff – to join two meaningful courses on sexuality education and protection from abuse and violence.
