Did you know that the ocean must contain approximately 14 million tons of plastic garbage per year, resulting in at least 2,144 species living in a severely polluted environment. It is forecasted that by 2040, plastic waste in the ocean will increase 4 times. (WWF, 2022).

WWF compiled more than 2,000 researches on the impact of plastic on the marine ecosystem and stated that plastic garbage has arisen in primordial areas of the Earth such as the Arctic or in the deepest places in the ocean - The Mariana Trench. Tens of millions of tons of waste are poured into the ocean, with single-use plastic accounting for 60% of the total.

Additionally, a survey by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) predicts that 460 million tons of plastic were used globally in 2021, about twice as much as in 2000. Although the amount of plastic garbage is increasing, it was discovered that only 15% of it was collected for recycling, only 9% of it was actually recycled, and the remaining 6% was handled as residue.

A number of solutions have been proposed such as: banning and taxing single-use plastic products, cleaning up garbage, collecting and classifying waste upstream, using lanes or cloth bags for reusing v.v. However, people continue to be the most influential component.

With the aim to raise awareness of young people about the harmful effects of single-use plastic in meals, promote the practice and spread of a sustainable green lifestyle, VSF started the " Lunches for saving the earth " campaign, with the theme "Use plastic once, have a repentant lifetime", taking place from December 19, 2022 - January 13, 2023

More specifically, the campaign is holding the challenge "Lunches for saving the earth" with attractive gifts for those who love the environment.
