“Only girls are at risk of becoming victims of sexual abuse.” “Only children in puberty are at risk of being sexually abused.” “Children just need to be wary of strangers.”
Those are some common myths about child sexual abuse. In fact, child sexual abuse exists in many forms. Therefore, equipping children with proper knowledge about this topic can help prevent child sexual abuse behaviors.
This is also the knowledge shared in the training courses for students, parents, teachers, and officers within the framework of the “Scarlet Sails” project implemented by For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF).
Currently, the project has completed phase 2 in Hai Phong with impressive results:
400 students of An Tien Secondary School were trained on child sexual abuse prevention skills and communication skills on this topic.
30 parents and 30 teachers of students in An Tien Secondary School were trained on child sexual abuse prevention skills.
1 survivor of sexual abuse is sponsored tuition and living expenses.
The “Scarlet Sails” project has been initiated by VSF since 2020, with the goal of connecting and mobilizing resources in society to jointly support and nurture the dreams of children in especially difficult circumstances and are at risk of sexual abuse. In addition to training courses and seminars to raise awareness and enhance skills for children, caregivers, and related parties on the prevention of sexual abuse, VSF also connects and mobilizes resources in society to jointly sponsor living expenses/tuition fees and organize vocational guidance for the children.
