According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in 2019, the amount of plastic waste and plastic bags in Vietnam accounts for about 10-12% of domestic solid waste. If on average 10% of plastic waste and plastic bags are not reused but completely disposed of, the plastic waste would be nearly 3 million tons per year in Vietnam.

Each household usually uses 5-7 plastic bags / day; On average, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City waste about 80 tons of plastic and plastic bags per day. 80% of marine plastic waste comes from land. Vietnam is one of the top 5 countries in the amount of plastic waste dumped into the sea with 0.28-0.73 million tons / year.
