Field trip to Khau Noong and Na O school sites

At the end of June 2020, For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) had a field trip to two school sites of Khau Noong and Na O in Thach Lam Kindergarten (Bao Lam, Cao Bang).

The trip not only helps us gain closer look to the lives of preschool students but also better understand the difficulties and lack of teachers in poor village schools.

Khau Noong is one of the poorest communes in the district with no electricity due to difficult transportation. Students have to study in underliving conditions with no light on both winter and hot summer days.

Arriving at Khau Noong school during lunchtime, we had a closer look at the difficulties of the children. Lunch was held in the hot little classroom, each lunch package opened with steamed cornmeal which must be accompanied with a few glasses of water for easy eating. Several students don't have food so they have to go home. Because there is no kitchen, no water tank, and no kitchen utensils such as bowls, chopsticks, or spoons, students have to pick the food up by hand, and drink water directly from the stream.

At Na O school site, children are equipped with better facilities due to the newly rebuilt school. Although electricity is available at this school site, thanks to teachers' donations, there is still no water for drinking. Every day, two teachers have to walk down to people's houses to get water. Therefore, even though there is a temporary kitchen, there is no fresh water and no budget to organize cooking for the children.

Understanding aforementioned difficulties, the project "Growing up with mountainous preschool students" has raised funds to sponsor lunches and improve children's learning facilities. After 1 month of implementation, the project has received a lot of support from individual and unit donors. As of 1 July 2020, VND 144,092,000 had been received from domestic and international donors. This amount equals to 84 out of 85 sponsored preschool students

Therefore, we once again ask for contributions from donors to sponsor lunches and improve children's learning facilities such as: Installing solar panels, construction of water tanks and kitchen renovation.
