When it comes to Tham Pung, people imagines it to be a secluded school site with a small classroom near the stream which made by a few pieces of wood and a roofing sheet. Every time it rains, the classroom is leaked and filled with mud. Up to now, Tham Pung has become a spacious and well-equipped school site to meet the living and learning standards for upland students.

Talking about the journey of building schools at Tham Pung village, Mr. Sinh, the head of religious community, shared: “I had a meeting with locals 3 times to reach an agreement on land donation to pave the way for trucks carrying materials; and 2 other ones to mobilize villagers to participate in road repair and material transport. That day, it rained when material-carrying trucks were going uphill. As a result, difficulties piled up and the wheels of trucks began to slip. All the villagers, teachers and I used iron ropes to pull the car up the slope. That journey lasted 4 hours and finally we pulled 3 material-carrying trucks to the gathering place.

In the Inauguration Ceremony, villagers were so happy that they held a feast to celebrate. We would like to thank the State, the Party and For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) for building a spacious and clean classroom for us”.

It has been 3 years since the school site has been rebuilt. Now, the school site has spacious and clean classrooms, kitchens, standard toilets, playgrounds to ensure living and learning conditions for students. From that day, the children neither have to worry about rain and bitter wind, nor cross streams to class. The larger playground is covered with cement, the campus is fenced around with bloomy flowers. The villagers are happy and excited to take their children to school and the attendance rate of the children increases day by day.

The teachers also feel more enthusiastic and secure in her work because of teaching their students in spacious and clean classrooms. Although there are still many difficulties ahead, no matter how rough the road is, the teachers always overcome that challenge because there is a bright future waiting for upland children.

VSF is very happy that the joint activities to build more schools are contributing to improving the living and learning conditions of children in the uplands across the country. VSF believes that this will be a great motivation for the children to overcome difficulties and reach for a better future.
