“Through these activities, I better understand how students think. From that, I can build appropriate approaches and select suitable methods to guide them to study better and organize the classroom more effectively. Furthermore, I will apply this to my own son at home.” - Mr. Tran Dai Thang.

“After today's training session, I learned that to effectively apply positive discipline, teachers need to control their own emotions, find the root cause before reacting and especially respect the differences in each student, particularly those who are mischievous or are inclusive education students.” - Ms. Tran Thi Thao Van.

These are some of the teachers' sharing after attending a training session on positive discipline organized by For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) in coordination with the Vietnam Association for Protection of Child Rights. The session was held for 21 teachers at Nghia Loi Primary School (Nghia Tho commune, Nghe An province) and marked the first activity of the “Happy school” project for the 2025 - 2026 school year.

Under the guidance of lecturer Ms. Le Tuyet Mai - Vice President of the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Child Rights and lecturer Doan Minh Hien - Program coordinator of positive discipline for the association, the teachers explored basic concepts of children's rights and understood the difference between positive and traditional discipline. Beyond listening to expert presentations, participants actively analyzed situations based on their own professional experiences, applying the learned knowledge to solve problems.

Notably, teachers were encouraged to learn how to put themselves in the children’s shoes, viewing events from the perspective of the children's emotions and needs. This is considered the prerequisite for approaching and handling disciplinary situations. Based on this foundation, they were instructed to apply the formula of “warmth” (creating safety, understanding and listening to a child's emotional needs) combined with “structure” (providing instruction, explanation and collaborating with the child to find solutions). This combination helps teachers maintain discipline in the classroom while simultaneously promoting respect and personality development in students.

In the coming time, the "Happy school" project will continue to hold many beneficial training sessions for teachers, parents and students at Nghia Loi Primary School. Please follow VSF’s communication channels for updates on upcoming activities!
