Youth are proactive and positive about environmental initiatives

More than 50 young people participated in the "Basic knowledge about environment" training with speakers and organizers

Based on new learning models such as "Design Thinking" and "World Cafe", combined with exciting and meaningful games, within 8 hours, the youth went from the basic concept of "sustainable development" to the practice of designing initiatives to solve environmental problems. From high schools, universities, and various social organizations, businesses, but young people who share the same concern about sustainable development have expressed their concerns about environmental and enthusiasm to resolve them.

Different groups explore, discuss and critique on “sustainable development”

Speaker Xuan Quyen, with over 10 years of experience in the field of social activities for the environment, introduced the model "Ecological Brackets" to help young people realize the natural relationship between three components, including human society, economy, and environment. In particular, ecology is the root foundation, the source of life for the remaining two elements of social and economic development.

After understanding history, impact, and sustainable development trends, young people are divided into 6 groups based on 6 local environmental issues: climate change, air pollution, water pollution, waste management, waste classification, and ecosystem imbalance in specialized farming areas.

The topics discussed were fascinating and positive, with many exciting initiatives, proposed and designed by young people themselves. Specifically, on the theme of intensive agriculture, based on the natural farming method (by the farmer, philosopher Masanobu Fukuoka), the young people proposed to apply to Vietnamese agriculture and instructed practice together at home garden.

Speaker Xuan Quyen has observed the standard difficulty of young people in addressing environmental issues often comes from approaching through too large and macro concepts. They will have trouble in proposing ideas. She suggested that young people should start from small problems and be close to their locality. From that intimate feeling, young people who love the environment will have more motivation and inspiration to propose more realistic and feasible solutions.

As they begin to discuss their story, I see a young generation's reflection on environmental issues and sustainable development. I think it's an important thing to motivate you to keep going. The initiative and creativity and the acumen in making a general idea about reducing consumption of the student are surprising me" - Speaker Xuan Quyen evaluated after the training.

Speaker Xuan Quyen appreciated the positive spirit and initiative in learning and making efforts to solve environmental problems of the younger generation.

Training for youth is one of the main activities of the project "Youth for Environment" to increase youth participation in solving environmental issues and contribute to promoting positive changes in government and corporate environmental policies for sustainable development.

The next two training sessions on the topic of "News/article writing skills" and "Creating an environmental communication plan" will be conducted in July.
