“Until now, I thought gender equality was only about women. Today, I realized that men also face pressure and inequality. Fighting for gender equality means fighting for men too.”
“The speakers's stories today were very close to the real life of many families. I hope more families will share responsibilities between husband and wife so that both can ease their burdens.”
These are just two of the reflections shared by participants of the discussion “Men leading actions to promote gender equality,” organized by For Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF) in partnership with TH Group and the Male engagement network for gender equality and sustainable development (VNMENNET) on December 11, 2024.
The discussion was part of the Let’s Orange 2024 campaign, attracting over 200 employees of TH Group in Nghe An province.
The discussion began with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Kien, a lecturer at the University of Law (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), presenting striking images and data about gender inequality affecting both men and women.
A roundtable discussion was held, featuring two renowned speakers in gender equality and community development: Mr. Dang Hoa Nam, Director of the Department of Child Affairs (Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs), and journalist Truong Anh Ngoc. Also participating were leaders from TH Group, including Mrs. Luu Thi Thu Hien, Deputy General Director of TH Milk JSC; Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of TH Milk Factory and Chairman of the Trade Union; and Mrs. Tran Hong Diep, Director of VSF, who moderated the session.
Journalist Truong Anh Ngoc and Director Dang Hoa Nam shared simple yet profound stories from their own families, such as cooking, washing dishes, and caring for children. They emphasized that the key to a truly happy family is reasonable and open sharing of responsibilities between spouses.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of TH Milk Factory, shared a corporate perspective. He highlighted positive changes within TH Milk Factory, which has transitioned from being male-dominated to having over 30% female employees. He affirmed that women are equally capable of operating machinery and equipment alongside their male colleagues.
Beyond the roundtable, 200 participants engaged in team-building games to deepen their understanding of gender equality concepts such as gender stereotypes, gender-based violence, and practical actions to promote equality in daily life. The activities created a lively atmosphere and helped participants better understand these critical issues.
A particularly emotional and meaningful moment came when male representatives from TH Group’s companies in Nghe An took part in the commitment ceremony, vowing to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence.
Mr. Tal Cohen, Chairman of the Board and CEO of TH Milk JSC, stated:“I believe in and call on all men at TH Group to support women in sharing family responsibilities, advancing careers, and amplifying their voices in the community. By showing fairness and respect to women, we can contribute to building a more equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
The event concluded with over 200 attendees hanging orange messages on a tree as a symbol of their personal commitment to build a safe and equal society for women and children.
