"Today I learned so many interesting things about how to convey information through wall newspapers – from how to collect information to writing headlines, drawing illustrations, and even composing poems to express what I want to say. I really hope to join more classes like this in the future."

That was the reflection of Cao Huong Tram, a 5th-grade student at Ha Son Primary School, after participating in a training workshop on visual communication through drawings and wall newspapers, co-organized by VSF and the Quy Hop District Department of Education and Training. The workshop was led by journalist Do Thi Thanh Binh, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Youth and Children’s Newspaper, along with journalist Luu Ha, Deputy Head of Reporters Division from the same newspaper.

During the workshop, students were introduced to basic communication concepts and age-appropriate communication methods such as themed drawing, comic creation, visual messaging, poetry writing, short news writing, and more.

With guidance from the experienced journalists, students then practiced creating their own wall newspaper projects around three main themes: protecting clean water sources, gender equality, and personal hygiene and care.

“This was my first time learning about wall newspapers and making my very own one. I felt really happy,” one student excitedly shared.

Drawing and similar forms of art are highly effective communication tools for children. Through these activities, they can express their opinions, emotions, and perspectives on issues around them while fostering creativity. In addition, designing wall newspapers helps children develop key foundational skills such as critical thinking, observation, teamwork, and coherent expression – all of which are useful across various subjects in school.

This workshop was part of the “Happy Schools” project for the 2024–2025 academic year, implemented by VSF. The project offers a holistic solution to improve school infrastructure and enhance the capacity of both teachers and students in underprivileged areas. It is one of VSF’s ongoing efforts to contribute to Vietnam’s national target programs and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
