“Before, all we wished for was a bridge that we could walk across. Now, with a bridge this wide, even cars can get through. The children are so happy. They came home and told us that they have never seen such a beautiful bridge before.”

That was the sentiment shared by Mrs. Sung Thi Sang as she joined her children at the inauguration ceremony of the Hang Gang – For Vietnamese Stature bridge on May 17, 2026, in Lao Chai commune, Lao Cai province.

Ms. Sang has four children attending primary and secondary schools on the other side of the bridge. For many years, each rainy season brought constant worry as she accompanied her children across the old wooden bridge, which was narrow, slippery, and severely deteriorated.

“Sometimes it rained all night. By morning, the water would be very high, overflowing onto the bridge. It was very slippery, and my children and I were frightened as we crossed,” she said.

Therefore, what she had hoped for over many years was simply a sturdier bridge so that children could travel to school safely.

Now, that long-held wish has become a reality with the completion and official inauguration of Hang Gang – For Vietnamese Stature Bridge. With a width of 4 meters, allowing vehicles to reach the village directly, the bridge not only makes travel more convenient but also brings hope for greater connectivity for local residents, especially for children on their daily journey to school
